This five session course will teach you what all the dials on your camera do, and how you can use them to take better photographs.
Your tutor is Stewart Wall who began his professional photography career on a local newspaper in 1978 before freelancing for Fleet Street titles. He is also a qualified and experienced teacher of photography, specialising in camera craft, documentary photography and photo-book making and has based this online course on what he teaches in Colleges and Universities.
It is an ideal course for anyone wanting to engage with college courses, distinctions or camera club competitions.
The course is broken into five weekly sessions of 90 minutes each session
Session 1) Camera Craft 1 Introduction
The aim of this session is to introduce you to controls that all cameras have that you can use to create stunning images. Whether you are new to photography or attending as a refresher to develop your skills further this session is an important foundation to the whole course. Your homework will be to put what you have learnt into practice.
Session 2) Camera Craft 2 Advanced Technical Quality
The aim of this session is to help you to develop your new engagement with cameracraft to a higher level to start to create award wining images. Your homework will be to put what you have learnt into practice.
Session 3) Creative use of Camera Craft to create Visual Awareness
Now you are feeling you are in control of your camera this session introduces approaches of producing creative images with a wow factor through visual awareness.
Session 4) Camera Craft and Communication
Now you are using your camera to create stunning images, we will look at photography to communicate impact, storytelling and empathy with the subject matter. The aim of this session is to give your image making power.
Session 5) Creating a Portfolio and Overall Impression
By now you will be wanting to share your new images and this session will cover how to put together a cohesive set of images that create a great impression.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal course for anyone who wants to improve their ability with their camera and for those wanting to engage with college courses, distinctions or camera club competitions.Participants do not need to have prior knowledge of these skills since they are covered by the course.
How is the course delivered?
The course is delivered online over one five weeks in 90 minutes sessions using zoom.
Who is the lead tutor?
The course is taught by professional photographer Stewart Wall who is a trained and qualified teacher. He has led several social documentary and street photography events for the Royal Photographic Society and and is a member of their Distinctions Assessment Panel.
He has a BA (Hons) in photography from University of Lincoln, a BA in Graphic Design from Teesside University and an MA in Visual Communication from the University of Hertfordshire.
What will participants ideally need?
Ideally participants will need some form of camera, which could be a DSLR, Mirrorless, Rangefinder, Bridge Camera or Mobile Phone. Access to Adobe Lightroom is preferable but other software can also be used.
